“`html

The genuine Icom BP-297 battery case is an essential safety and backup power accessory designed specifically for Icom IC-M37 and IC-M37E handheld VHF marine transceivers. It powers the radio using 3 standard AAA (LR03) alkaline batteries, ensuring the vessel maintains communication capability during emergency situations or when the primary rechargeable battery is depleted and no electrical source is available for recharging.

It maintains the radio’s waterproof integrity and environmental sealing when properly attached to the radio chassis. When powered by off-the-shelf alkaline cells, the transceiver automatically throttles its RF output power to 1 W to optimize power consumption, extend battery operating life, and ensure stable, reliable transmissions on Channel 16 and distress frequencies.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the transceiver transmit at 1 W when using this battery case?

AAA alkaline batteries are not designed to continuously supply the high discharge current required for maximum transmit power (6 W). To prevent abrupt voltage drop and ensure usable operational life, the radio automatically restricts output power to 1 W, which remains sufficient for emergency communications over typical operational distances.

Is the radio still waterproof with this battery case installed?

Yes, the BP-297 includes perimeter gaskets engineered by Icom to maintain the transceiver’s waterproof submersible rating when correctly seated and locked into place.
